This is my first study painting the dunes here in the Crescent City, California Pacific Northwest. We have days that are so bright that I first painted this with such high chroma, it didn't look real even though the color was acurate to the scene. I decided to tone it down and still got a beautiful low key version here which I liked better.

Thanks everyone! I had fun trying to make the grass really look "grassy". You should see it in real life. There are no words for the beauty I see here and this painting could never truly capture the height of it. There actually is a small path to the right of the one leading up the hill. It is very faint as I wanted to capture the dark values hitting the path going to the top as it really was that day.

Nice brushwork! I like the variations in the colors of the grass. Maybe a little path in the foreground to lead the viewer in.
