( golden rectangle -- http://www.easy-oil-painting-techniques.org/art-composition.html ) Noni, have you ever heard of a golden rectangle?  I found this on Delmus Phelps site a while back.  I kept reading about it and not really understanding it much.  I finall took a clear plastic CD case and made one using a perm marker.  I just copied his design exactly.  I am always playing with it looking through the clear plastic at paintings trying to understand it better.  I thought your composition looked like it pretty much went along with the lines on the golden rectangle.  I used it to set up my colorful building blocks that I did.  I have a great book Composition of Outdoor Painting by Edgar Payne, but I have no training on still life composition.  I messed with the composition for my Indin Pot painting not really liking anything I tried.  Our daughter walked into the room, looked at the situation, and set up the design I ended up painging in about 3 seconds!  I told her she was hired!  Anyway, I remembered this golden rectangle so I thought I would pass the info along incase you might be interested in it.  Ro

Hi Ro.  I'm such a shell person, having been raised 5 minutes from the beach.   I remember, as a kid, seeing cowrie shells and cuttlefish all along the beach! - Now they've all gone, and you can only buy them in shops!  Absolutely tragic!

So I'll just keep recycling mine, and popping out a painting here and there with them in the starring role!

Very nice. I love sea shells. Mostly I like to walk the beach and claim them for mine. I proudly take them home and usually put them amoung the flowers. LOL The fun was finding them and picking them up. Ro
