Original Oil Painting by Jeri McDonald 10x10 oil primed and textured panel. Started doing roses and flowers for my mother who turns 80 in May. I've done several small ones in preparation for a larger painting to surprise her with. Done from original photo references of my own roses.

Thank you all for nice compliments. I really liked using Indian Yellow for this effect of a glow along with the pinks which are permanent rose and alizarin, some ultramarine blue.

Thanks ladies for the wonderful response! I've never painted roses or flowers so this is truly appreciated. The background made a huge difference as well as my own prepared support. See my blog entry yesterday.

Beautiful background in this painting: softened shapes, dark to light etc

Your roses and the other flowers are beautiful. Your Mother will treasure the painting you give her!
