This is an exquisite piece of work, Melanie.  Love the movement of her hair.

Thank you so much Summer.  She is such a beautiful child to paint.  On this day her mom had just come home from Iraq.

I love doing portraits as well; however, it is difficult painting an accurate likeness.  I am sure that this little girl's painting looks exactly like her.  You really captured her personality.  Landscapes are easier for me because nothing has to be as exact.  No matter how you change the things you actually see in the setting, it still will look like a landscape.

I see another post for your beautiful portrait.  Landscapes are harder than detailed work for me too.

Thank you so much Nancy.  I am trying to paint the landscape now for the workshop II and having a lot of trouble doing so.  I feel more comfortable painting a face than painting a tree!

Very interisting Melaine, Thank you for sharing those thoughts with me to better understand. I was noticing rugged rocks on the way home today. "Wonder what all angles and colors I could see if I painted one of those (the rock itself) and did studies under different lights. Since I desire to be a landscape (imprissionist) artist, I keep trying to SEE colors. New Mexico is the most colorful place we have traveled since I started this quest. The grasses and dirt are so colorful. Great thought to decide the temperature of the light to know the shadow colors. I had a artist tell me to look inside a white stirofoam cup and you could see the color of the shadow. ha ha Difficult. I have only seen what she was talking about one time and that was on the side of a white house boat in shadow. I was so excited to have seen it. Ro
