Nice one Mark. Suggest you try this using a black and white reference photo. You've lost the modelling of form due to the values being too light in the shadows.

Hi Siobhan and Gail, I see what you mean...but I probably leave this one for the reason you suggest....bin !    I have another cooking ...so see what happens...may be like my sponges...turn into pancakes  !!!

Yes close up the full looks great I think darkening the background should make it pop ... But then again I did that with my background and had to bin the painting cause I ruined it

Very attractive face on this bird! From a distance though, his nicely shaped beak seems to disappear against the background.
