GORGEOUS painting Jim. LOVE IT !!!

Thanks, Casey! I did paint this in NJ. I lived in MT for several years as I attended MSU, in Bozeman. I get back there a couple time per year to visit family and shoot pics. I would love to do some plein air painting but I have my family in tow! This painting received a lot of attention. More than any other works. I always felt that it was too dark but no one agreed. This photo has a lot of glare but the shadows are pretty deep. I guess that is what makes it. P.S. I finished an exhibition last week and sold three paintings!! After years of false starts, I went "full bore" with my attempts to sell my works. It seems I may have a chance at this thing. If that's you aim then don't give up!

Congratulations on the sale - this is really lovely, Jim.  Did you actually paint this in New Jersey? Please say yes - I am originally from there and I'd love to show this as proof of how rural some parts. The composition works beautifully - the understated foreground leads you right to those bushes sillhouetted against the sky.

This painting has sold an is on it's way to California (USA). Thanks to Richard for the confidence he has given to me, as an artist.

Thanks Andrew. This was from a photo as I was frantically trying to drive through the valley before the light faded. As it turned out, this was the very first photo and the only one worthy of a painting. I must admit that I have not painted plein air in years. Richard however, has motivated me to get outside as soon as the temp is above freezing (in NJ, USA)! Best!    Jim

Nice piece, Jim... really striking with a good composition.  From a photo or painted en plein air?
