It's a matter of many many many layers of pencil starting out sort of light.     I do the same with my acrylics only I start out semi dark.  Thank you very much for the wonderful comment.

Very beautiful. I love colorpencils and made a few paintings myself, birds too. But yours is so lifelike, I've still got a lot to learn.

An art student that I met when I was a young women introduced prisma colored pencils to me. She had just graduated from the Ft. Lauderdale Art Institute back in 1980. She told me that you add layer after layer after layer of pencil color slowly and gradually into get those deep dark rich intense colors. To do it that way means that you don't dent or damage your paper surface. I love working with colored pencil. I don't do it often but each one I do is thick and rich and intense. Thank you for noticing and I will be adding two other colored pencil works as soon as I can.
