EVENING SHOWERS

Oils, 16x20 inches, One of the many evening thunder heads formed in the monsoon season in New Mexico. This was when we were at Elephant Butte State Park last spring. It is only 1/2 of the major cloud. I was wanting to paint a sky scape as I had never done one before. I was also using the color scheme of orange and blue.

On this one, at first I made the shadows inside the clouds way too dark and it looked as though the cloud had holes in it. I went out and looked again. Then I noticed that the values of the cloud were very similar. I made my shadows much lighter and that seemed to work. Ro

Comment by Roena King on October 17, 2010 at 5:05: Thank you Holly, New Mexico has the most amazing clouds and sunsets of any place we have visited. Not every once in a while, but every single day. Maybe because it is a dry climate, not much populations, not to many big cities to muck everything up, and I guess just good clean air. Oh Dear.....don't tell everybody or "they" will all want to move here!
