Fire in the Sky Alla Prima Re-do Final Canyon

Oil, 8x10" canvas board
For RR Sunset Workshop
After comments from Carol Ann and Lori, (and thank you very much), I have tried to: 1) make the canyon walls more irregular 2) widened, deepened, and darkened the canyon 3) added a slight river to give the canyon a bottom and hopefully show how deep it is. I also added some complementary color (teal-blue/green) in the shadows for reflected light. Hope this is truly the final! smile

Wow Roena!  How spectacular a view and the light reflection and highlights on the cliffs are fabulous!  I can really feel the farthest distance of glowing cliffs and then the depths of dark in the foreground really playing off eachother to add an incredible sense of distance.  Your sky has an ethereal atmosphere effect going on that softens the whole scene.  Wonderfully developed and very nice brush work.

Roena, what an effort you put on this work, admirable! It is very beautiful.

Hi Ro, this truly does become a "canyon" painting even with the colorful dramatic sky. Technically, if I could change anything (and it never ends, yes?) I would make the shapes on the right as irregular/different as those on the left. Somehow it seems the shapes/spacing has become repetitive. This is an entirely different painting! Emotional concept is more dark and mysterious, not right or wrong, I just really like the beauty and feeling of serenity your #3 gives me, but then, I'm really into "peace" at this point in my life. All good, All different. Great job on all fronts.
