I did this for a VAA assignment on "High Key painting", meaning you lowest (darkest) value should be 5. I enjoyed painting this one. The drawing was a bit of a challenge getting that curve right!

Yes, a little bit of change in the right places can make a huge different. :-)
I like this painting. The temperature of the blues under the boat from warm to cool blue. The orange stripe separating the boat and water is brilliant. Being restricted by the high key it would have been hard to distinguish the water from the boat so that was an A+ move. The diffusion is beautiful. That little touch of sunshine on the front of the boat adds time of day, life and atmosphere. Isnt it funny how just he little things can make a painting sing? well done
VAA? whats that? You got me interested
Thank you for your kind and helpful comments Jon and Janet. I will probably work on this painting today and hopefully don't messed it up. The color is a bit chalky and I need some bold brushstrokes and more broken color into it, but keep it high key. I will see how it goes ....
This is fabulous! I love the subtleness of the colour. I'm envious!
I don't know if it's an ideal subject for a high-key painintg - but the hazy light effect does make the subject more moody/mysterious!
Thanks for you comment Ian. Yes it is not my usual style and myself feel a bit weird about this painting and I would probably work on it again, but keep it a high key painting. This was my first high key painting and I am still feeling my way around.
Cheers :)
