Hi Jim, as this painting was done prior to my joining The Complete Artist, I painted it in the method I was taught. So to answer your questions as best as I can as the painting is sold, (1) not tinted background, just started on white canvas (2) yes, in the past I've always started with the darkest darks, then the lightest, and finally the mid tones, that's if I don't loose my way, which I frequently do. I could be more disciplined but sometimes the rules go out the window!! (3) from memory, yellow ochre, burnt sienna, ultramarine, cobalt blue, burnt umber, alizarin and I may have used a little orange and permanent rose. White of course also. I hope that helps Jim. Sometimes it's difficult to remember as I mainly paint by instinct and even if you asked me what colour did you use to get that, I probably wouldn't be able to tell you as I just keep adding to get the colour I want. Thanks for your interest Jim and please keep practicing your painting,
Glenys, I have a couple of technical questions for you:
1) Did you tint the base on this, or just start with a white background?
2) Did you start with the darkest values first and then jump to the lightest and fill in the middle last (as Richard typically does)?
3) What colors were in your palette?
Many thanks everyone for your lovely comments. very much appreciated.
I love seascapes.
