I paint on liquid amber leaves too. They are a type of maple. You really need to press them first though. They are a lot more delicate than the gum leaves.

You are welcome to try painting on leaves, I don't mind at all.

That's so interesting, I like to try different surfaces and I may try that one sometime, if you don't mind =)

Although, I don't know if we have that kind of trees... lol

Hi Maria, I usually pick the leaves once they fall from the gum trees. They have already started to brown by that stage. I press them in a book to make sure they dry flat. Gum leaves are fairly sturdy and they will last a long time. There was a paiter in the 1800's called Alfred William Eustice. He painted on leaves sometimes. Some of those painting are still in excellent condition after 160 years. http://www.mossgreen.com.au/auctions/artwork-detail.asp?idImage=22484  A couple of his paintings at at this site.

Jeffery, this one is my favorite, so real, that seems like it will jump at you in a second!
By the way, thanks for you kind comments about my artwork =)
Let me ask you something, does the leaf stays as you find it when you apply the oils? it wont go like dead? very unique, though
And I love to paint on the slates because of its texture and their multicolor which is perfect for limited space for backgrounds ;)

Thanks Terry. Sometimes I get bored painting in a square, plus I like being different.

Thanks Terry. I've just finished a whole bunch of even smaller paintings on silver birch leaves (about 35mm x 24mm) They fit perfectly into those acrylic keyrings. I'm calling them 'Paintings For Your Pocket'
