This painting is of a Great Blue Heron taking a break from hunting between meals.
It was done using Golden Open acrylic paints on a 12x9 inch gessoed medium density fiberboard panel. The painting was finished with Liquitex gloss varnish.
The reference photos of this subject, I found at the following websites:
http://paintmyphoto.ning.com/photo/blue-heron1
http://paintmyphoto.ning.com/photo/heron-figurehead
and I thank the photographers for the use of their images. It was painted by combining two photos: Blue Heron 1 and Heron Figurehead.
I liked the background in the first photo and the bird position and lighting in the second.
