Oils 23x35 cm. Following suggestions I have tried to brighten the 'transom'. I have also changed the back ship a bit, added the ladder and softened the edges in the back buildings. Hope it is better now! The colours are closer to what it really is. I will leave the other for a while for comparison purposes! :)

Thank you Ann, Linda, Dor! Ningning, you have certainly made me laugh, it sounds SO proffesional!!!!!! :D !!! Brown paper is good... and cheap... Bubble wrap? Sounds good too.

My real fear, is, that if I varnish it, bacteria and fungi might grow between the varnish and the painting if it is not dry... though at this moment I am wondering if they can actually grow in an oily medium... and with little or no oxygen...

I suppose I will just give it some varnish so that it is protected from dust, and.... hope it won't get ruined soon... then, if, I have a problem with her... I WON't ask for it back... Ha...ha!!!! :)   Actually, I must be very thankful, as she wanted to be my very first client!!!! :)

I would wrap it in bubble wrap, Silvana, as a protection
When she is transporting it.

Silvana, this question should be answered by those professional artists here as they deal with it quiet often. My suggestions are just for your reference.

I use removable varnish. When I touch the painting and feel it is dried I will spray the varnish on it. Usualy 2 weeks after finish the painting.

When you give to her, you can both hold your painting and take a photo as a memory for your friendship. Later on if you have a problem with her. You can grab it back. Ha,....just  kidding. The photo can serve as an evidence. Years later, when Silvana become very famours, your friend can be very rich. Ha., ha, ha...

The painting is not very big, you can make a brown paper bag and put it in and give to her after taking a photo.

Silvana, happy for you as people love your work. waiting for more beautiful works from you.

Hi Silvana, I haven't tried it myself but one of the discussions at the Plein air conference was about to varnish or not to varnish. All the professionals said that you need to do something for preservation. It was said that several artist use a thin coat of Liquin as a finish when the painting was dry to the touch but not cured. I would be interested to see what other artists on this site answer to your questions

Hello everyone! A friend of mine liked this painting and I want to give it to her, (she wanted to buy it, but as I didn't want to sell it- to a friend-, we've arranged to swap it for some oils...!!!! :) ).

But I'd like you to help me out, if possible, in two specific points... This was painted in Feb., do you consider it is dry as to paint it with varnish on top? I'd like to do that before giving it to her!

How should I give it to her? The other I've given were just, 'here, take it'.... but what is the ideal way of giving a painting as a gift? How should I wrap it?

I would greatly appreciate and thank any help you could give me! Gosh,I am soooo new at all this! I feel extremely ignorant!!!!!
