Hi Richard; Some time ago I got interested in making paper so I bought Cotton in it's raw form "Linter". When the sheets arrived I thought it is archival and very absorbtive like a blotter, why not paint on it. It takes a special method and you basically can paint on both sides of the paper. You cannot controll the movement of the pigment and the carrier. It has a mind of it's own and in there lies the mystery and the secret serindipity. I have painted 6 paintings on the paper and it's texture is both a devil and an angel. The light bounces off the rough paper and causes your eye to stay on the image because the mind cannot figure it out. I have painted 6 other images if you are interestested in checking them out. Framing and photographing the images is difficult. the image you are referring to was held up to a window for back lighting. On my website there are 3 other images on the same strata. Under Racehorses "Churchill Downs" and under Animals "Big Elk" and under boating "America's Cup". Thanks for asking. I have alot to learn from you. I just fininshed 5 days of a Plein Air workshop and boy did I learn. This unigue strata would not work for Plein Air very well. You have to manipulate the pigment alot. LOTS of power in this one. Like it a lot. Is the paper a course natural paper - is that what's making all the texture?

Thanks Gregory....That painting is translucent and light comes through the back creating color in the background. the photo picks up both the back and the front. I looked at your images as well and you are accomplished in your work. Keep painting. Thanks for looking at my paintings. I just completed 5 days of Plein Air painting.
