I actually simplified it a lot, but I'm glad it comes off as complex to you. It needs work, but...Thanks, Nancy.

I love the tangled complexity of your tree. Good job, Delores.

Hi Tony and Terry,

Thanks for the input. It is all helpful, especially since I don't have a clue what I'm doing.

If you feel you could work on it further, repeat the exercise. I found painting the same subject a few times helps to develop ideas. Sometimes good ideas.

A well understood tree. You have caught the spacing and branch attitude well. I might have had a little more foreground maybe. Doing a few compositional studies (thumbnails or notans as they are now called) beforehand helps. Don't forget to blur your vision to study and analyse. Think reflected light, direction light, colour light and shadow. I like it. Happy brush miles.

Thank you Tony, I'm glad you like it. I, of course, keep seeing things I'd like to change, but...oh well. It's still sitting on my drafting table. I may tinker a bit more with it or I may put it away and say, "I learned a lot with that, now what shall I paint?"

I don't work in water colour but looking at this I wish I did. It is extremely effective.
