10x14 in. acrylic on canvas. 2nd try. This time, I put my detail orientated brain aside and let my hand go free. Never painted this way before. That was fun.

Simply beautiful!
Wow, this is amazing!
You are right Xiao, a little more color would help. I was just starting to get comfortable with the process and starting to add more color when I realized I had to hand it in before it was late. It's definitely not finished. It was a great learning experience. Having a due date really helps me actually do something. I think if I put in more color, more detail in the areas that were really dark in the photo, the shadows I forgot to reintroduce after darkening some areas, it will be a much better painting. Then I'll have to do something about the upper lefthand quandrant, ugh, I'm really not happy with that area.
I'm glad you're able to get back to something you loved in your earlier life. We need to nurture these things.
YouTube is where I found Richard! It's been great, but I do tend to forget about it as a resource.
Thank you,
Delores
Haha, Delores, it is my pleasure to sit next to you in class.
I saw you sparked a quite interesting discussion in the group. I did not go to any formal art school, so I did not join the discussion. I painted a little when I was young, inspired by my best friend. I have not holding a brush for over 30 years. About a year ago, I suddenly had the urge to paint again. I still remember the happiness I had when I was planning to buy paints, brushes and canvases. Internet is my art school. In YOUTUBE, just type in “oil painting”, I am amazed by how many very talented people willing to share their talent on the web. When I found the style I like, I would dig a little deeper. This is how I found Richard. Since I join the group, I have found so many great artists here. Such as Linda Wilder, Chris Roughton and Tom Wharton, just to name a few.
My problem now is creation. I can copy a photo, but I like the others who can take the essence of the picture and create a better and more artistic view of the picture. When I try to do that, I found I don’t have enough details to convince for reality. I guess more practice will help.
I saw your “naked tree”. Very interesting painting. It seems need a little more color, but it’s just my two cents.
It is nice to have you here.
Wow! Xiao Li, the gestural quality is marvelous! Can I sit next to you in class?
