I like this painting of Richard's so much that I have to study how did he paint it and how the colour was used.  But the very first thing: the lovely purplish red background in his painting that I could not duplicate.  I have tried to mix altramarine blue or colbalt blue or phthalo blue with cadmium red or cadmium orage even some dioxazine purple.  None of the combinations generate the beautiful pruplish red color seen in his painting.  Richard,  how did you make that colour?  I realized that besides that not so purplish red background, this paint is far from Richard's origenal.  Juist like you want to paint a tiger you get a cat.  But I enjoy the learning process.  I learnd how to paint a warm shadow on an orange.  That is just one of the many things I learnd from duplicating this painting.  Thank you Richard for showing us this wonderful painting.
