You both have some good ideas. ..I have been considering different options and you just helped me solve my problem.
I just ordered a good size flat screen tv to use with my laptop. I was thinking about a separate monitor and the guy frm Dell said that a tv would do the same thing only better! I should get it hooked up next week.I am very excited!
We have so much rain here...and snow before too long....that I can't count on getting out. This should be great.
Gina, I hope you figure out what works well for you. 'Happy Painting!' ( =

Hi Robin, Thanks for taking a minute or two to reply.  I too live in a country of extremes.  Canada is similar to NZ in that respect.  Freezing in winter; roasting in summer.  Good lighting as you say is paramount, I agree.  I'm planning on installing a colour corrected fluorescent overhead or directional if possible lamp.  The wall mounted computer screen is a new thought,  Its  a  good one.  I'll have to see how I can arrange that and if the budget allows.  Thanks again. Gina.

Hi Gina - thank you for your compliment - I don't know if I can be a lot of help in planning a studio. I work in an upstairs room which is reasonably small and not naturally well lit - winters are cold here too in Taihape New Zealand and hot in summer so not difficult to heat in winter and ventilate in summer.
Good constant lighting on your work and subject to me is of number one importance. I use a daylight corrective fluorescent light directly above my easel which is a good solid studio easel that can be adjusted to any height or angle and hold big or small paintings - also my palette. Beside that there is a wall mounted adjustable computer screen which displays my photos. I like to stand as long as possible while working so I can keep stepping back to try and see the "big picture" but do have a high stool as well.. As far as storage water etc that is a matter of how it works for you personally - I have plenty of storage in the next room. If I can be of any more help do let me know - good luck with the new studio - sounds very exciting!

Hi Robin, Please tell me about your studio.  What do you consider to be essential?  My husband is busy converting our garage into studio space for me.  I've thought of storage, water, counters, power,  adequate lighting....I don't have north light so will make due with torch lamps. In our northern climate, heating is essential in the winter months.. Any suggestions are welcome.  By the way, I love that painting of sheep.  Wow.
