Oil, Flemish Technique, 18 x 24 linen gallery wrapped canvas.
This is the final glaze and highlight layer. This process took me 26 painting sessions, plus 3 days to do the draying, and many other waiting days for the layers to dry. It is really good to be working on at least 2 paintings at a time so that "you stay away" while waiting for one to dry. This is the easiest thing I have ever done. I am really pleased with the results. I am sold on this technique! Love it. Contact me if you are interested in learning more of how to do this. You can see that it is just the technique that is "old masters", any subject will work. The debth that this painting has appears to me to be far superior to a one layer painting. The glazes just make it come to life. My opinion! Ro Hint: Hit CONTROL and the plus key and the pic will get bigger so you can look at the detail on the fur. Hit CONTROL and the minus key to return to normal. If you are interested I will be happy to share how I figured out how to paint the fur. easy!

Yes, Anne, it is very tough.  Maybe, I am a bit afraid.  I always want to improve and do better. (lol) And I want to do something so hard it is actually a bit scary. I think to myself, "If you dont push...you will never get better".  So, my 2 canvases are ready. I am still searching and  trying ideas, but nothing in the "grabs me" idea yea, but I think I am getting closer. I am thinking, who cares what you paint.....Just decide and do it!  LOL I am trying for a group of things I can approach a gallery with.  So, I need a style.  Hey, I have finished 2 paintings I am really happy with. Pots and the magnolia in the Flemish-smooth-tedailed style, so I need  20 or 30 more.  Yikes!  lol

I am thinking, perhaps, that will be a recognizable style or what ever for me( (? ). "read between the lines".....just paint!! lol

It's tough, isn't it?  I think when you have poured your heart into a painting, it takes a while to 'recover' from the experience in order to start a new work...you paint beautifully.

Anne I just spent 3 days doing the canvases (2).

I am sure you will think of something - perhaps work on something else for a while until the inspiration hits you.

Sometimes I get inspiration while I am preparing canvases and have stopped worrying.
Good luck.

Thanks Anne,  I am so glad you enjoyed it.  I have been stressing for days....boo hoo.....I can not find anything in the entire WORLD to paint!  I am trying to paint only cowboy and indian things, and that limits my OWN PHOTOS to use.  I just dont have that subject matter in photos already.  I owned the pots and did the set up, but not interested in doing another pot painting.

Lyndon, thank you for all the stars.  You are so kind!  Yes, you can do this in acrylic (I think I will envy you cause they dry so fast!).  I belong to another site and a group learning how to paint in this method.  http://www.antonovart.com/Portrait_study/index.htm  This is ArtPapa.  He has these photos to show his process in doing a portrait and the amount of detail he does on each layer.  PETER, I was wanting to show that to you too.  Also, Lyndon, if you go to artpapa.com and look for his free lessons he shows in great detail with wonderful explinations the process of how to paint a green apple and a rose.  Ro
