Thanks for your comments Diane and Fay.  I decide not to put reflections in the glasses, work a bit on the teeth and put my signature on the corner below.  The portrait looks better now, thanks for all your help.  I don't want to start fiddling, because I am scared to ruin it.  If I start fiddling, I don't stop!

This is beautifully painted Aurelia. I love the way you have captured so much of your Dad's personality in his eyes. If you put reflection on his glasses I think you would lose that special expression.

Aurelia I don't have a problem with the colour or value of his teeth I think they are great I just think the teeth themselves could have a slight definition of some of each of them so they look like individual teeth rather than a solid mass as they appear in the photo. Just a slight!!! darkening of the very fine lines between some of the teeth. Please don't spoil your beautiful portrait.

Thanks for your comments Diane.  I fix his teeth today and make it a bit more clear as the color was to dirty for me, but it's hard to get your value right and make the teeth not looks dirty, because the value is about 5.  If you make it too white, the teeth pop out and it looks very odd.  I also fix his throat area and show a bit more of his glasses edge.  Yes, you are right about my signature.  I need to move that.  Thank you.

wow you have done a great job on someone who is obviously very speacial in your life. I too am not sure of the throat area but love the glasses. my eye keeps looking at the step in his hair line on the right obove his ear I would use artistic lience and even the line also just give the teeth a tiny bit more definition.(they may look great on the painting but hard,to see in the photo). Just one more obsivation I am not sure I like the way he is wearing your signature on his shoulder as you hve a long name maybe smallr and straight across a bottom corner.

Thanks Jon.  I will play a bit with the background color today and see what looks best.

Thanks for your comment Ian.  Yes, I need to fix his throat area.  My dad wear those frame less glasses, so all you see is the frame.  Maybe I should put some reflection into it.  Yes, my dad was a very nice bloke.

Maybe have the background gradate from slightly lighter to slightly darker as you go across. Is it the best color? Could it be lighter and the darks on the face a bit darker to tie the subject and b.ground together? Just ideas - don't spoil it!!!!

Thank you Jon.  No, I am going to buy myself a new IPad after my exhibition.  I hope my camera problems will be something of the pass then.  What do you suggest for my background then?  I see Sargent paint almost all his portraits on dark brown backgrounds.
