thanks so much for your comments! :) by way of clarification, the space next to Nan originally had a dimly lit doorway in it. I felt it would have been very meaningful (stepping out into a new adventure) because they are nearing the end of their lives here on this earth, but had a change of heart, I thought that the imagery would have been too much for their daughter, who I had painted it for. I realize now I could have resolved that space a bit better :) thanks again for all your helpful and encouraging comments.

Beautiful art work! The colours are nice and well mixed. I agree with Andrea about the unused space next to nan on the right. I think it's breaking the balance of the composition. Otherwise, a great work. Congratulations! Ah, you've showed the fabric appearence of man and woman shirts, just taking advantage of the paper's texture! Very good!

I'm going to be evil and critique this, only because i think you're talented. It seems weird to me to have pop cut off on the left, but then have so much blank unused space next to nan on the right. Was this intentional? Could it be better cropped? I could be totally out to lunch :)
I have to say that your rendering of the skin is very well done. I like that you've pick up colours from the background to help support the shadows and you've added the perfect amounts of warms and cools to achieve a very convincing skin tone. Also you've added the bounce light from the shirt colours on the chins and under the noses which really helps us to read the depth and light in the painting. Really nice work! Feel free to critique the hell out of my work too :)
