This is my painting for the workshop of First Snow.
The tree was a bit awkward to paint - to reduce all of those little branches and yet keep the blue of the sky.
Interesting to paint something that is not familiar - the landscape,the tree....so I was thinking just shapes...which made it a really good exercise.

I agree with you, Marina. How do you simplify and still keep the integrity of the image? You did a good job. Nice juxtaposition between the loose, smeared strokes of the branches with the detail of the trunk. I really struggled with the tangled stuff at the base of the tree. Yours is quite successful.

OH how I wish I could paint loosly like this! Great job! I am encouraged by your perspective of LIKING the fact you are not familar with the subject. That put me off... since i live in Hawaii and have NO relationship with snow. Hmmm I will re-think this now.

I like your approach - concenrate on shapes and colours  - forget the subject as it can get in the way. Great result
