NZ Native, first painting of a bird. The background is really flat and has no light, so I guess I'll paint over it - any suggestions??

Gather up all your nerve and energy and go for it! I will try anything figuring that is how I will grow and learn. NO fear! I am more interested in learning than producing anything....figuring that one day that masterpiece will just imerge! Anyway, I painted some clouds in a painting that I was not pleased with. After they were dry I sanded the sky off! It was a good thing, because I figured out how to do some much better clouds. That same newly learned technique for clouds was in Fading Light. Never, ever be afraid to try new things! You will learn more when you have to figure out how to "fix" something that you can apply later. Ro

thank you Roena I'll remove that branch and thought I'd give this a lake background. We'll see how it goes.

Really well done. One of our egrets here in the states have yellow feet. Since you have decided to paint the background would you consider removing the limb part that is "kissing" the end of the bird's tail? If the tail had have gone on past the branch it would have been fine. I have done such things like this myself. It just happens. LOL Ro
