I painted this little critter awhile back to raise awareness of it's rapidly declining numbers. In Canada, the species occurs in the sandhill areas of southeastern Alberta and southwestern Saskatchewan. Kangaroo rats have recently been placed on COSEWIC’s endangered species list. The kangaroo rat is not a direct relative of the common rat. Unlike domestic rats, these rats don’t spread disease or have a negative effect on crops. A nice site you can learn more about them is Nature Canada.

I used triArt acrylics on a 7" x 9" canvas board.

Hi Giselle,
Love this painting! It is so much like the endangered Kangaroo Rat species here in Australia. It also has similar habits and not a disease carrier either.
regards,
Gail
