For the last several years I have been painting on glass. Luminaries are very popular here and I have sold many. The difficult part is finding nice glass pieces to paint.

Joanna, our daughter, and her husband were in Dublin. We were there with them 2 times in the 4 1/2 years they were there working for a church. We took one trip up north and loved the castle, Reg's favorite thing to do, and the Causway. We stayed in a bed and breakfast. There we were served the same brown bread that my Dutch grandmother used to bake. The lady of the house sent us home with a loaf. She was so lovely. We visited a distillery but I was more interested in taking pictures of the frost on the plants and spider webs. It was so beautiful. Not too crazy about sampling stuff that tastes like hair tonic to me anyway! Irelend is beautiful, friendly and soooo expensive.

We have a South African friend who lived there and is an artist. He did numerous shows. Ever heard of John Adams? I believe that the family is now back in SA. Enjoyed chatting. Will look for more of your paintings.

What a great tip Deb.... I never thought of checking IKEA!!  I also find that painted glass pieces work really well as tea light / candle holders.

Ha ha... yes, the 'boot'.  I remember my [ex] sister in law looking at me as if I had two heads when I talked about the boot and the car in the same sentence!  I can imagine that it would not take me very long to pick up the Southern 'drawl' either - I can imagine your little friend's teacher's reaction. What part of Ireland did your daughter live in?

I do agree, there are some very talented artists on this great site - the thing I like best is that we can all benefit from being part of a large gathering of like minded people.  Painting can be really 'lonely' if, like some of us [myself included], one lives in a rural area.  Encouragement and exchange of constructive critiques are key parts of the learning process that we can all learn from, professional or amateur.

Happy painting!

You are kind. I was able to find a few small pieces last week, but they were clear. I used a frosting paint that "cooks" in the oven and then painted the trees. These seem to sell well at the Cafe 100 Gallery. I have been able to sell a good number of glass pieces there including frosted lamps that I found at IKEA. They are great to paint and beautiful with a very low voltage bulb. Sometimes it is hard to find frosted pieces that are not scratched.

So glad that my daughter lived in Ireland and I knew what a "boot" was.... :) Also I grew up in New Jersey, US and could hear a little "Irish-ness" in some New Yorkers. So interesting how the English language is transformed by location. Now that we live in the South, I guess that I have learned to "drawl" a bit! When working in Russia in the summer, we got one little friend in all sorts of trouble when she returned to school. She was no longer speaking with a Brit. accent and her teacher didn't like it!

Thanks for all your paintings and your encouraging words. There are some amazing artists on this site.

This is a beautiful large piece Deb ... if I was lucky enough to purchase such a work, it would have a prominent place in our home!
I absolutely agree - it is so hard to find 'good' pieces of glass to paint. I love trawling round charity shops, car boot sales and markets on the hunt for suitable glass.

Just plain old glass, but it seems to be harder to find what I am looking for lately.

Hi Deb... This is gorgeous! Is there a special type of glass you have to use?

Thanks, Anna. First try to find a lovely piece of Glass. That is the big challenge here lately. I use an acrylic enamel that is fired in my oven at 350 for 30 minutes.

Wow, it's very nice. How did you do that? Anna
