Steinnun, Walda, Dorian and Ian, thank you for your encouragement. I agree Walda, our cameras and time of day can have a big bearing on how the viewer sees our finished painting doesn't it. Even subtle changes in light can have quite a marked effect.

Ian, Olivia, Robin and Steinunn, thank you for your encouraging comments. I felt reasonably pleased with this painting when I'd finished it, but can see I could have put some darker darks in the foreground as Michael suggested. Ian, I didn't mean the foreground dark to look as if it was all coming from the poplar tree shadow - I think I should have put some lights in between to break up that dark area seeing you "read" it as being all from the poplar tree shadow. Thanks so much for your comments and critique.
