You are absolutely right and it is what have been trying to achieve without success as you saw.     What should do isto give it another try ......

You brightened the scene with your color choices and made it a haappy place in spring. I like the warm hues you have used in the foreground but it would be more successful if the shapes were more abstract and a little scattered.
