5x7 inches. Oil on Board
Learning points:
1. Figure out how to get a glow by layering wet on wet without getting muddy.
2. Painting from life
3. lost and found edges
4. leaving things out of the painting ( I need to work on that more) for example the stem leading to the leaf from the pear stem.
5. try to get a realistic look and still look like a painting.

Yes, I built it in colors and the first layers I used medium; but then I used a completely dry brush and no medium. The first layers were put on with a softer bristle brush and then the dry brush was a stiffer brush that I just held at an angle and very lighly "pushed" the paint down into the layer below. The leaf is a little like the leaf that was on the pear, but the leaf on the pair was very dark and almost black and withered with holes in it and dead, and I didn't like that, so I "brought it back to life" :) Thank you :D
I am assuming something here: that you built those colors in layers. Is that right? The whole thing is well done, but that LEAF, in particular, is astounding!
Great contrast !!!
Thank you for letting me know. I especially like the leaf, looks real.
Thank you :) I used a limited palette. The background is French Ultramarine Blue and Burnt Umber graduating to more Burnt Umber and then to Burnt Umber Raw Seinna and White; with reflections from the pear colors. I use Raw Seinna, Cadmium Medium, and Cadmium Yellow and some Burnt Umber with White for the pear. I blended the edges of the pear into the background with a really soft watercolor brush. It took me about an hour and a half. It is really small. 5x7 inches.
Love it! You did this in one day?? Wow... What colors did you make the background? I love the feeling of space around the pear.
