Here is another of my green pears turning yellow before my very eyes. This I was painting under lights in the late afternoon into the dark evening. I'm not sure I have figured out if my light is warm and my shadows are cool yet. I also used the limited palette that Richard has used and I didn't like it one little bit. I'm going to try another one but I'll stick to a limited palette for the next one also. I kept seeing warm in my shadows and that may have been the reflected light. Just not sure of myself on the color matching here. Maybe I just get too carried away with detail and should stay simple. 6"X6" Oil on Panel.

Dig the depth of the background, cools in the shadows and bold strokes! great job!

Thanks Sandra as you can tell I too really like these workshops, learning heaps also and having great fun at it. Wondering where we will be in another 5 to 6 months with everything we've done to date.

Thanks Linda, yes I have been using Richards color checker but I think the holes have been a bit too far apart to check lights with lights and darks & darks on these one pear setups, so I may make another with closer holes punched out. I saw a really nifty tool on a one of the sites Richard recommended in one of his courses I just purchased and it's from the  Carder Method you can see it on one of Carder's videos.

have you tried the grey "spot checker"?  I made one with canvas paper and acrylic black and white to make a value 5 (of 9) and cut little squares in it.  It helps to compare (Richard showed it in one of the videos).  It took me a long time to sort out warm and cool colors, but it looks like your shadows are warm.  Nice painting

Hi Dennis you always put 110 % into these workshops . I enjoy viewing your different paintings and the number of times you revisit and redo a workshop. I am enjoying these workshop and learning heaps.

Hello again Sandra I did some B&W 5 value images of these color studies and I see that you are right the lower left hand part of my pears have gone too high in value and not helping to show the correct placement of the light. My new table just arrived and that was fast, haven't got the shadowbox stuff yet though, what to do next?

Hello Sandra, I didn't take a picture of this pear for some reason, just forgot to do it I was tr5ying the limited palette on this one and I guess only one thing at a time will stick. Last evening I was working on another pear and took pictures of my set up and I'll show you those.  I have a limited amount of space in my studio and purchased a table to set up on but it's yet to come in. Then I'll be able to set up my lighting as I wish. I'm not sure that the lighting and it's position is critical here on this challenge but to do the values correct. My beautiful new digital camera is taking amazing pictures but I don't think I know how to use it as I'm finding the shadow side is photographing too light. So yes my light is on the left shining down here is my set up from last evening with my first and second steps of painting the shadows. Hope this helps your confusion

I love how you paint you are not scared of thick paint you have painted a very good pear .
I feel you may have to add some more dark to the right of pear and a little confusing with left shadow on table.
Do you have light to left of pear or on middle ?check high light and shadow placing may not be right
