Oh "brave soul", that is the best idea yet to take some photos of your own. Can you try for really early morning light or late in the day or in the dark garage with one flood light. Lots of luck. It only takes a minute for me to do the photo alterations if you need me to do that trick again. Ro

Oh, yes, it might be helpful on the photo one that I sent back to click on the photo and blow it up to see the slight differences in values on the head to make it have the 3D effect. Ro

From now on you shall be called "the brave soul". LOL I dont think I can help you with a picture that is in your head other than to tell you to make something have a 3D effect you must have at least 3 values. Here is a story that might also help. When I was doing the graphite drawing of the elk that is in my gallery, I could not tell from the photo what the knee of the elk in my photo was doing well enough to draw it. So, I started hunting on the internet (images.google.com) for every photo I could find of elk. I saved every one that would show good elk knees. I looked at those until I finally decided how an elk knee "grew", and then with that knowledge I managed to draw the knee. /// So what I would recommend to you is to do some research on the internet of that breed of dog "sitting in that position" and study on them to paint your painting. ///// Here are the computer alterations that I did even thought the images were not the same. On the original photo that is changed you can see the slight values needed on the head in the dark color hair and on the white part too. On your painting the values are equal over the head so that there is not a shadow on the side to help with the 3D effect. /// It appears that the head has a long nose and a forehead that is more pronounced. /// Patrick, I hope all this makes some sort of sense to you. I tried. sigh Ro

Patrick, what I was asking was do you have a photo of the dog that you are painting from? Then I can do my magic on your painting and the photo. Ro
