It s not really ocean here - it is Adriatic sea - a part of biggerr Mediteranean sea ..and then thrue Gibraltar you can come to Ocean...But there are still waves (sometimes even big..). I live on west coast of Istria peninsula where we dont have big mountains but it is pretty (a small town "Novigrad")

Actually I made a foto of this vawes 2 years before, only after croping some and adjusting colors i reallize that wolud be interesting painting (the first one)...It seems that every place has some caracter...and when you take fotos of waves - look if there is sun and position becouse this make huge diference..(All photographer knows that special light early morning and late..when the shadows grow...)

How interesting about the diagonial line thing. We have another way that produces the exact same thing called the rule of thirds. It divides the canvas in 1/3s up and down and across. Everywhere the lines cross (same spot as yours) is a good place to put the subject. Cool, huh! We are at the Gulf of Mexico right now, and on different days the waves will be so different. Yesterday, the north wind had blown the humidity out, and the waves were big so I got some great photos. Other days there might be all but no waves at all. Strange to me. I Google Earth your country trying to see where your beautiful ocean paintings came from. Wow. Very tall mountains right next to the sea. It looked like a very pretty place. New Zealand and Austrailia also have areas with tall mountains near the sea. Texas is flat near the Gulf of Mexico. I have been looking trying to find something I thought was as pretty as what RR paints in his ocean paintings. Ro

Thanks Ro ! It s funny you have notice my brush "holder", it is just old peece of stirofoam (5 cm thick - use for isolation house or similar) which hapened to be there and I just found that is easy to sting in it brushes (backward),. Thanks for Golden Rectangle - I read article also few times but didn t catch all - googled little - it seems that it indicates the canvas with 1 : 1,6.. ratio is the best... I use some simplifyed rules, but will try to learn more about. I found this rules helpful for positioning focal point for any size canvas (and ratio): I drow line from one corner to opposite (dijagonal) and then from remaining corner line just ortogonal to this diagonal...this can be done for any (of 4) corners...

I will try this you sugested - it looks interesting. Good night . (it is 1:05 AM morning here)

How exciting! I am clapping and dancing and yelling......Another artist "made it"! - Congratulations! I have been wishing I had a holder for my brushes while I am painting and using them. I see your brushes are standing up nicely - what do you have them stuck in? // Your gallery is wonderful. Lots of room! I really took it all in! // I recently started using (cause I just found it) a Golden Rectangle. You mentioned that making the painting was not as easy each time. So, my thought is for you to make a Golden Rectangle to look through so that you might better determine the placement of waves, rocks, etc. I read the article at least 3 times and did not understand it. I finally made one using only his example (shape) out of a clear DVD case cover. You could make one in a long format. No clue if you already know about this Golden Rectangle or not. http://www.easy-oil-painting-techniques.org/art-composition.html Once I made it and started looking through it it started to make sence. I used it to set up my colored blocks. I thought they turned out nice. At least I had a reason to put them where I did. /// I am sending you a friend's request as I want to be sure to keep up with your art. Love the work. Good job. Ro

Thanks Ro! it is almost 2 meters long - 80 inch (198cm x 63cm). Probably my best painting. It is oil on canvas. This format is quite nice for landscapes. This one actually won our local anual exibitions (amaters), and the first price consist in posibility to have my own exibitions in few months (first). After this I started to make few more of this formats...but soon I reallised that it is not easy every time to get so nice painting..and that i have to learn more. Soo ..here we are. I think my next step will be to do small plan air studies and paintings. In midtime I am trying to finish 5 - 6 big one ( 80" x 26") for this exibit.. I attach a pic. of my studio (garage) in the middle of process... Thanks Again ! karlo

This is for sure going in my favourites! What is the size and medium? It must be very big since it has the seam in the middle. To say it is beautiful would be an understatement. I love the color of the waves and the green. The storm on the right is so nice. Ro
