It was painted on Duralar (mylar) transparent film and then overlaid on a photocopied section of a NOAA Nautical chart. The chart was printed on acid free Epson Ultra Presentation Matte paper using archival inks. The location of the lighthouse is shown with a small red & White striped LH on the chart. The acrylic paints used were artist quality and archival.
The Point Cabrillo Light Station is located on the coast, North of Mendocino, California.
In the late 1800's, demand for lumber meant that maritime commerce on the north coast of California was at an all time high and a lighthouse was critical to the safety of the ships and their valuable cargo. Although Point Cabrillo was surveyed by the U. S. Lighthouse Service in 1873, construction of the lighthouse was not completed until 1909.
