Stephen, I don't use mediums or retarders...I just keep my paints misted. I use a stay-wet palette but not the sponge insert. I put a piece of glass on the bottom of the box and use wet paper towels to lay my paint on...keep the towels wet and your paint will stay good....mist to keep it from skimming over. Some copper pennies will help to retard the mold growth....just place them next to your dark colors. I hope this helps you with your outdoor painting. Most important...just have fun!

Hi Stephen, thank you for your comments. This piece was a WIP when I posted it. I think  the hard edge may be some charcoal left on the canvas....I make a lot of "what would this look like" corrections in soft vine charcoal and live with it for a while. If I like the corrections then I paint it in.  The piece is finished now and framed....I will post a new photo.

As for the purple and yellow I glaze or dry brush blend one over the other. The first color must be completely dry before you add the next. Use very small circles at the brightest area and slowly move out from there. Take care not to stay in one place too long....you can rub a hole thru your first layers if you do. Keep blending and gradating the color till it disappears. (You only want a small amount of paint on your brush when you start) .

I love acrylics and I am always open to learning anything new about their handling.

Do you paint from life or from photos? As for books I always have a few reads going....Right now I going back over  "Carlsons Guide to Landscape Painting" also I am studying some of Corot's works. He has a softness I really admire. I think that we can all learn from each other....

Thank you Catherine, I really enjoy painting snow...it is sometimes hard to get the light reflection on the snow the way I want it. But as you know with acrylics you just paint it out and over again. I use a stay-wet palette so the paint stays wet for weeks. It allows me to rework a passage without to much trouble. Tell me what you enjoy painting most?
