Eugene: This was part of workshop 13, where Richard gives a video lesson and some photo references for us to work on. You pay a monthly fee of 20 to have this short painting lesson. You then upload your painted image and others can comment on it. Richard will also choose several paintings to critique.

Thank all for the comments and advice. My sister was born in Hawaii and she wants this painting, so I will add the advice to the painting to hopefully getting it a little better for her...

I felt the fun of being there, trying to ride the rough wave, and occasionally being smashed on the sand. what a good job on the waves. May I suggest just a little amount of neutralized warm colors on the background foliage?

Love your painting Caroline.  Can really feel the motion of the waves and hear the crashing on the cliff. Fabulous.

Really terrific painting, Caroline. You even included swimmers in thatbturbulent water. The wave is so well done. It really makes sense crashing on those rocks.

The splash takes center stage - I wouldn't worry about the parts you don't like, we are mesmerized by the wave.
