Actually it's the color one made B&W on a computer. Here's my question if someone would be kind enough to comment on. Is this a good way to see if the values are right, wrong, good, bad? Color one is next up in my album.

Reid, I see 4 values in this winter scene.  The concept of values is to place them in such a way that the underlying composition has an abstract design that is pleasing to the eye.  Strong contrast is good if it helps the design come alive.  In this scene the viewer's eye will be drawn to the mountain and then to the sky. I viewed your painting and for the most part you kept the right value of colors where you intended. I find this difficult and if I'm not careful I'll veer off course when I mix the colors. So I'm keeping a values chart close by when I mix a color...but then I have to hold the chart right next to the color and squint my eyes to make sure it's correct.  Is the concept of values something new in your learning?
