David, you've really  confused an old bloke, I'm not sure which one I like most - they are both excellent paintings!

I wonder why you decided to cool off the first version?

I noticed in your profile you consider yourself to be a beginner and it almost made me feel like hanging up my paint brush, if these are the works of a beginner, I hate to think what mine are! LOL

This really captures the grandeur of the scene. The terrain looks foreboding and distant mountains very cold. You captured a very powerful image of untamed nature.

Really nice work David. You've really enhanced the sense of distance & truly shown the scale of the scene. The work on the base of the background mountains is stunning.
