Oil on Linen Panel 12"X16".
Today here in B.C. it's sunny and cold with our local mountains in a dusting of first snow. I struggled with these mountains I just couldn't get them.

I don't think that you are as far off on the mountains as you may think. Perhaps a bit more definition of the peaks but I get the impression of sunrays over the top as well as atmospheric perspective. Excellent movement. Vary your values a bit and it's perfect!

Love the mountains and flow of the river.

There is such a confident feel to this - I admire that!

Thanks Tom, I spent the a day painting another one, it's smaller and has taken me more time. I'll have to wait to photograph it tomorrow I'm expecting a sunny day, that will be good.

I will also try and work this one a little further as it's dry now and maybe I'll try some glazing, I think Id like to push the color a little more with some saturated spot here and there.

Last evening we had our first snow down here at sea level. My local mountains here were just magnificent this mourning. Not yet ready to tackle them though.

Very dramatic and powerful. You said you struggled with the mountains but the are the best part. It looks like they are melting into the overflowing stream which in a sense they are.

Thanks Susan, this means a lot to me as I am very much a fan of yours. Your pieces have all caught my eye and I've admired them greatly, well designed and lovely color harmonies.

I should know more about mountains and snow storms, but I like my valley marshlands and river flats and I'm not much for going up into the mountains. Go figure as they are right here also and are so very magnificent but I think I find them little daunting.

I'll have to look up Gold Coast, sounds like sunny warm tropical beaches.

This is a strong and dynamic composition.  I admire those loose confident brush strokes for the water. As for the mountains... well I read them as being enshrouded by an approaching snow storm, which works fine for me (not that I know anything about snow, living on the Gold Coast).
