Many thanks for that Richard - will have a try at that then as I really like it

Looking forward to workshop 4 now. Yeah!

Well it's really just a shadow across the foreground which is a pretty standard landscape technique and I'm making sure the edges are mainly pretty soft there too - and no major contrast - save all that stuff for the focus area.

Hi Richard - this is just lovely and totally inspiring. I have noticed in both this and your last workshop piece that the immediate foreground seems quite subdued - seems to make your eye jump straight in to the painting  somehow- contrary to what I have read with most recommendations. Is this a new technique you have pioneered? It certainly works though imagine is not easy to execute effectively.

I am so jealous - and you make it look so easy......This is very inspiring, Richard.  I want to work twice as hard now.

This is SUCH a masterpiece of this scene. Your glowing light in sky is breath-taking. The inspiration you felt from the subject comes right through the brush!!!

gorgeous!!...im finally home from vacation and able to spend some time on this site...as i was quickly sifting through the gallery images, this one caught my eye..and i thought...oh that's a real winner!! - and wouldn't you know..it's richard's!!!!!...and yes, thomas, it's a really good idea to step back from the canvas to see how it's progressing! - see how the values are holding together...looking in a mirror or viewing the painting upside down is another good way to check drawing, values, etc.

Hi Richard  Another beautiful painting.I have a question. Do you find yourself stepping back from your painting often to take it all in while you are painting? And , is this a good practice?
