Thanks for the comments, Pete. No waterfall intended, but I see what you mean. I think if the reflections had been consistent - as Richard writes - straight down vertically, the waterfall appearance would have been avoided. This painting is in my living room (always a mistake to have to stare at your own work) and what I see as the biggest flaw is the contrast of mountains against the sky is too great - they should apear misty. What I like most in the painting is the red blob in the center, near the river bank, and just "hints" of buildings.

I like the painting too, Karen. I'm thinking the dark foreground is a function of the photography and that the painting itself shows lighter lights in the foreground giving more contrast. It's also interesting how the foreground is so lush and green, whereas the background-midground mountains appear so stark and lifeless. Finally, does the river appear to drop off into a waterfall in the front of the actual painting? If so, is that the intention? Great job.

Thanks so much! I appreciate your input and see what you mean about the atmospheric perspective in the midground and the reflections being straight down vertically... I wish I had painted this AFTER seeing your A.P. video!

Nice painting Karen. Painted from a photo? I like the composition and the colourings. One thing that I think could have made it better (if I may) would be to have added atmospheric perspective to the mid-ground landscape colours. Another thing to look at is how to paint reflections - straight down vertically from the object - have a good look at the photo again.
Hope that helps some.
