Thanks Sharon - shadows are fun in pastel  - its somehow easier to get all the gradations of tone

No  -not plein air - pastel painting doesn't lend itself to that (sketches maybe) too many pastels

I used a few photos I'd taken -and cropped and mixed a bit.

This one is pastel on pastel paper (a rust background paper if I remember rightly). It was 60x40cm. Santorini is full of odd angles and shapes being built on a steep slope (side of an ancient caldera) so everything is packed in. The challenge was the perspective as it is not at all conventional. But I love the way the light bounces round and pastel was a good medium to do this with.
