Interesting that you used the smooth side of your paper. Have you ever heard of Darrell Tanks, fivepencilmethod.com?
He used Strathmore Bristol Vellum - smooth side which is the wrong side of the paper. He has some free intro lessons that I signed up for and did the 2 balls in my gallery. He teaches a "tapered stroke". He mostly does portraits and uses 2H,4H,HB,2B,4B pencils. Ro

thanks girls :) sorry meant to add details... as now edited this piece was done with coloured pencil on toned pastel paper, smooth side.

I am going through these backwards (?) but I was so drawn to the old lady I just had to open it first. I guess this is coloured pencil too. You are very good at it. Really nice. Ro
