11x14, oil on board. This painting captures a moment at Death Valley, California, near the Mesquite Flat sand dunes. The "stop sign" was advising that people should not walk among the dunes in the middle of the day, due to the dangers of heat exhaustion. I saw a woman preparing to go running through the enormous mounds of sand, and I thought of both the peril and excitement she would face. Perhaps she was foolish, but what is life without a moment of folly now and then?

Thank you so much Ruby!
very good work Laura
Thank you Britt for the comment! I think the close by hill makes whole painting looks like snow. I may think about to modify it even through the painting self is a lot better.
Great concept and lovely brushwork! I first saw it as snow, though, and even after reading the description, I can't stop seeing it as snow.
Thank you very much for your wonderful comment, Steinunn!
Wow, well done Laura, you depict the heat and the vastness of the illusion.
Ian, Thank you so much!
Thank you Jessica! I am kind of thinking should I explain where it is or leave it to reader self figure it out. Happy New Year Jessica!
Interesting story behind this one, Laura! The figure really makes the composition work!
Thank you Ann! Actually it is like snow. The sky and mountain colors are little too cool may be.
