16x20 oil on Canvas after JoV. Thank you to my friends that liked and gave me advice to improve this painting. I darkened the value of foreground and added stronger color to other areas. I also added the pile of rocks infront to push the cliff back and some more Cedars grew to tie the darks together. I am trying to learn the desert coloring to do more of the area in Utah where I grew up. It is a challenge to hve variety of color and shape in the rocks. I won't mess with this any more but suggestions for improvement are appreciated. Always trying to improve

Wow, This is a great piece, Ann. What a fine job you have done! Your correction works very well to let the rocks stand out from the blue grey background and dark redish brown forground. The rocks also have the vertical light changes which is the most sensitive and beautiful light effect you created. Very interesting and impressive. I love it. To me, your rocks are very professionally done and very real. It makes me think about the rocks Richard did. You have to find somebody whom can give you suggestions to improve. I am not qaulified.

Okay Ann...I'll keep working on it or maybe starting over.  If I'm successful I will post it!

Thank you my friends; Colleen, Cristina, Joy, Pauline, Laura, Linda and Britt your encouraging comments mean alot to me. I think I'll keep them for when things aren't going so well. Joy your right about the hard lines in the focal, I'll fix them. They are little strokes of pure purple and show up on the photo like black. WEIRD!  Linda keep going on this one, it is a challenge but a great learning experience. I'm planning to do more with this palette of high Utah desert subject paintings. They are complicated for me but I spent my childhood roaming around this country and have always wanted to paint it. I may even get brave and try a plein air when visiting my family this summer.

Very nice Ann.  Your design is great and the balance of colors are good too.  Aren't Joe's "paint along" live demos great!  I have struggled with my own painting of this scene and plan to try again someday.  We live in the Mohave Desert in Arizona.  I want to start plein air work there when I return home next week and see what I can do.  I prefer painting rocks that have sunrise/sunset colors on them.  Your rocks, although cooler in color, have rich tones and texture.  Great work!

Ann, this is great enhancement on this one. The rocks are beautifully done! I also like the foreground plants and composition.
