Original Oil Painting by Jeri McDonald 16x20 on stretched cotten canvas. Still life from wildflowers, onions and corn all grown here in Firebaugh. I picked the flowers around the block from my home where the sun shines all the time. I wanted to capture the bright morning sunlight shining in our windows every morning and how it made the yellow daisies petals look lit up. I did not want to use a dark background but see if I could get that effect without adding too much shadow behind the flowers but just enough to pop them. I was also suggesting a country atmosphere with my subject matter. I will be entering this one in our Fresno county fair.

I really like the variety in the flowers Jeri
The other thing I was trying to do was keep my values all in the lighter end to help create a feeling of sun and light all over the painting which the basket did have streaming light showing through from my window making it look much lighter than it was.
I actually repainted that basket much lighter as I had it darker as described but it overpowered my focal point which is the flowers so I pushed it back and made it less significant. The photo is not as clear as the real painting and it has more depth than this is showing. Hard to take a good photo and make it look like the real thing. Thanks for all the advice. I may still aad more depth as you say Betsy but not too dark. Thanks!
This is lovely flowers!
I love those flowers!
