Thanks for the reply Bill, I suspected it was watercolour but I wonder how you managed to keep the white highlights so crisp, they look as if they've been added later. Whoops, I just seen your comment of the 29th August which explains everthing.

A wonderful painting Bill - the colour just sings and the petals look so delicate! Excellent work!

This began as a pouring technique.  Masking all the white areas first, then pouring reds and finally blues.  Then removing the mask and direct painting the rest.  Edges were softened and glazes were used to cool or warm some areas.  Painted on Arches #140 lb. cold press paper.
