Thank you Nancy!  I used Richards grid method to draw the truck.  It was a really fun challenge.

Love your old truck. You drew it perfectly...something I had trouble with. Your scene feels so quiet and peaceful. By the way, I Iove your photo. Soooo cute.

Thank you, Robin for sharing your knowledge with us.

I have only used walnut oil Ningning but I believe you have to be cautious with some vegetable oils as they don't all oxidise.

Robin, thank you for your comment about medium. I can not get walnut oil. So I am using refined linseeds oil. Is anybody tried ordinary vegetable oil? Those we can buy from supermarket? I am very curious.  Anyway, I am afraid of acrylic. They dry too quickly. My brain can not catch up with them. Lol.

I can sympathise with you over your acrylic difficulties Ngaire! I have used acrylics during my "off and on" painting career and developed a lot of bad habits mainly because it was so easy to fiddle and paint over the top when my drawing wasn't quite right and when I had other problems - some of the main ones being the paint drying too quickly - particularly in the summer - and also drying a different shade.
Recently I have started using Cobra water soluble oils but because of all my bad habits which are hard to break have struggled somewhat and tended to overpaint and make mud, but with the help of Richard's videos I am starting to make a little headway. They certainly do give a better finish than the acrylics and much easier to blend - particularly in the summer.
I managed to get small bottles of walnut oil at a health shop on Richard's recommendation.
Your chevvy is great!

Thanks for your comments Li. I did struggle with that right hand corner, so maybe I will revisit it and take your suggestion on board. I use acrylics but can't get that thick juicy look that oils produce as they are water based and end up looking quite flat.

Beautiful, Your value to me is very good. The drawing is very well done. It is not easy, the car is beautiful. You must take a lot of time to make the value and tone works. It is a cooler version but the colours are harmonized and very peaceful. Any suggestions?  If I were you I would make the upper left conner a bit different colours, now that place looks flat. The frame work of the shelter could have different colour according to their location as Richard did. It would make the shelter more 3 dimention. Your cat is a baby and so cute, Your awning is Superb!!!

So difficult trying to paint with thick strokes while using acrylics as it dries flat. Any suggestions for making the paint "thick and juicy" would be welcomed. I have water based oils but so far have been unable to source walnut oil in small quantities!
