The Colors of Evening, Diagonal Line Composition

Oils, 11"x14", Rockhound State Park, New Mexico, USA. Another of my paintings as I strive to do color studies. For Christmas I got a excellent book for landscape compositions by Edgar Payne, COMPOSITION OF OUTDOOR PAINTING. I am still trying to paint a painting of each of the compositions mentioned in the book. Excellent book.

Comment by Roena King on August 10, 2010 at 11:54: Thanks Elizabeth, I was really getting into palette knife work, and the painting was done completley with palette knife until I got to the detail of the desert plants and grass. So rather than "blending out", I did my blending as I was apply the paint with the palette knife. Ro
