58cmx42cm watercolour on Arches 300gsm. Just finished. I am constantly amazed at how these creatures can be at sea, in all weather, surviving, perfectly attuned to their world...

That's a lovely comment Silvana, thank you - actually I have been invited to do a couple of workshops this year in New south wales so am organising that now-ish.  However, as I welcome constructive critique as well as you, you will do just fine - drop me a line anytime (artistsandilear@gmail.com)  if I can offer any pointers on watercolour - have made a ton of mistakes and in the process of making a ton more - so maybe I can help with a couple of yours!  I getting back into the swing of things after a very busy guest-caring for festive season, I always start with just a wash - this is on the back of another painting I discarded, it was raining so chose water colours.....as the wash dried it started to suggest itself to me, so built up the layers, added some salt for texture, the atmosphere built and I decided it was the perfect setting for a Wandering Albatross (of which I am inordinately fond!)...added some foam lines, checked my vectors and values - so a long winded way of saying it took 2 days, but the actual painting time between drying was less than two hours...join me, loosen up and have some fun splashing water and paint around!

How long does a painting like this take you?
