9x12 Oil on textured panel Plein air with Laura . It was fun but challenging because the wind was strong blowing from SF to San Jose. I had to hold to my panel to keep it from blowing away and Laura's easel was vibrating and moving around. I did the basic painting in 2 hours but added form and details at home.

Thank you for your encouragement Nancy. Those golden grasses help to control the greens so I always like to paint them

I know how difficult it is painting in the wind. My watercolor group from L.A. Came up this weekend. We had a heck of a time on Sunday in the wind with paper, easels , brushes and paint blowing into the sand and beyond. Fun, though. I really enjoy the way you paint. This is another strong painting with those warm grasses drawing the eye into the focal point.

First off, I like this painting very much. I really like the soft colors. It looks like such a pleasant place to br. You really captured the serenity of the locale, and there's no hint that the wind was driving you crazy.

We don't get much wind here (we are not near the sea). What drives ne crazy are the bugs! They get into everything. .my eyes, nose, ears and the paint!

I have convinced my husband to go out and paint with me. He's not an artist (he's the scientific type), but he likes being outdoors and doesn't mind trying. So, work on your hubbies, girls! It's lots of fun! ;-)

I sure agree with Olivia, it is hard to find a buddy to paint with.

I sit mostly in my car to paint except on a warm sunny day.

Congratulations Ann on producing such a lovely painting under those conditions.

It actually looks very peaceful and tranquil. There is a lovely softness in your brushstrokes.

The wind is the worse thing. Ive given up trying.Last time not only did my easel keep blowing over but when I reached for white it wasnt there. Later I found a big blob of white paint on my hair. It had blown off my palette.

You guys are lucky to live near each other. If I had a painting companion at least we could have a laugh at my feeble efforts and my family would not be worried about me heading off the beaten track on my own.

I have a friend who could be very good but she is not as serious about it and its over a year since I last dragged her out with me.

Hi Linda, Yes come paint with us ! San Jose is about a 12-14 hour drive from AZ. And yes this is in the San Jose area just north of us between SF and San J off 280.  Hawaii sounds great for plein air would like to visit again sometime. Post your paintings so we can all dream.

I want to paint with you all some day! I wonder how far away you are from Meadview, AZ. or maybe this wasn't painted in the San Jose area? I'm heading home from Hawaii tomorrow. Had 3 plein air sessions with a nice group of artists while I was here and will do it again in January. So much fun to paint and to learn. haven't been able to find painters where I live yet :(

Congratulations Ann on your plein air painting.  How lovely to have Laura's company.  Will look forward to seeing more from you both.
